“Craniosacral therapy allows you to recover primary body movement and helps general well-being,” Clara M., animal therapist

What is craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a non-invasive method, which is based on the correct movement and functioning of the entire body, that is, each muscle, each organ, has a healthy primary respiratory movement, which over time, due to injuries, diseases, emotions , etc. It ends up varying and producing dysfunctions, tensions, pain, pathologies... With craniosacral therapy, this correct movement is recovered, thus correcting any type of ailment and helping the body to remember what its optimal state is. The whole body is connected to each other, therefore, any correction positively affects general well-being.

What health problems of our animals can it solve or alleviate?

Actually, anyone. As I said before, the whole body is connected. You can work at the skeletal-muscular level; in post-surgical rehabilitation, highly advisable in this case to avoid adhesions that occur after sutures in the tissues (skin, muscles...) to preserve the elasticity of the area and the correct functioning of the fascia that has been sutured; and in chronic diseases such as Leishmania or Cushing's. In the latter case, the functionality of the adrenals and pituitary glands would be worked on to control the production of ACTH (adrenocorticotropin hormone); renal insufficiency; pulmonary hypertension and even tumors.

How is a craniosacral session developed?

First, I introduce myself to the animal and explain what I am going to work with it. I never start until I see that it is quiet. Once I have earned their trust, I listen to the body through contact with the fascia, as everything is united, they take me to the point that needs the most attention. Normally I prefer that the person of the animal does not tell me too much and I let the body speak. In the end, one thing leads to another and you end up discovering what the ailment is and where exactly it comes from. Sometimes we think that a stomach pain is simply that, something related to the stomach, and with craniosacral we are surprised to discover that it can come from any part of the body, from an organ, a contracture, a scar... Once this imbalance is corrected, the ailment disappears.

How long does it take to usually see improvement?

From the first session. Depending on the case, it can be solved in one, two or three sessions, or perhaps more. An issue of muscle contractures and injuries is not the same as a tumor in which we will need frequent sessions and long-term follow-up. Each animal is a world, each body works differently and the emotional component is always important, to move forward or backward. In craniosacral we see the body as a complete whole, that is, physical, emotional and mental or spiritual.

Have you found it impossible to carry out a session because of a very nervous, fearful or aggressive animal?

I had a case of a very sore kitten that thrashed around every time I approached her. It took me about an hour to get through to her. I have to say that I made communication with her to be able to calm her down and gain her trust (telepathy with animals is very important when giving therapy to an animal). After that, I was delighted and the session continued as normal.

Can you briefly tell us about any special cases you have dealt with?

Each case is special, but I can give you the example of Lupo. It is a dog with osteosarcoma, which they recommended putting down so that it would not suffer. From the first session he stopped having pain. We have had four sessions and his quality of life has improved, he is back to playing and being a happy dog. The tumor is there, but it is controlled and isolated from all the organs without damaging them. We have managed to paralyze the process.
