Traveling animals: natural treatments so they can enjoy traveling

Let's do it!

The first step to solve our animal's fear during trips is determine the reason for your concern. To do this, it is advisable to go to a animal behavior therapist. The investment in time and money in most cases will not be high and we will surely be able to solve the problem definitively.

Many animal therapists also rely on natural products and therapies that help animals calm down during travel and adapt to the new temporary location. Some of them are:

Herbal remedies. If the problem is nausea and vomiting during travel, ingredients such as ginger are very effective. If, on the other hand, it is about fear or stress, there are preparations with calming effect based on skullcap, valerian, passionflower, oats, etc. Supplements with the amino acid tryptophan are also effective.

Flower therapy. The essences of Bach Flowers and other floral systems help our animals get used to traveling and living temporarily in the destination place. For this, the most effective thing is for a specialist to test the floral mix most suitable for each specific animal. However, there are some flower essences that have been proven effective in most cases. For example, if we talk about dizziness, the mixture of Scleranthus with the well-known Rescue Remedy is very useful to reduce the feeling of dizziness. Other flowers that help make our animals' trips more pleasant are: Walnut, Gentian, Cherry Plum, Beech, Mimulus, Aspen and Rock Water.

To ensure its effectiveness, it must administer the floral mixture to our animal at least a week before leaving on a trip. The recommended dose is at least two drops, 4 times a day. You can give them directly in their mouth (preventing them from sucking on the pipette) or pour them into their water bowl, preferably in mineral water. During the trip, you can increase the frequency of the drops. Once arrived at the destination, you have to continue giving it flowers so that it adapts better to the temporary home.

Aromatherapy. The olfactory route is also very effective in calming animals in situations that are stressful for them, such as travel. During the trip, essential oils vanilla, ylang ylang, incense, hops, valerian or chamomile They will calm dogs with fear and stress. When you arrive at your destination, it is also advisable to continue offering the chosen essential oil. For example, violet leaf is very useful in cases of fear of change and unpredictable situations. Simply open the small bottle to release the aroma or you can also use a vaporizer. We offer you individualized aromatherapy telephone consultation. More information here.

Tellington Touch Technique. Based on simple massages, bandages and exercises that calm the animals before starting a trip.

TuiNa Massage. This type of chinese massage acts on points of the body's meridians and balances energy. To counteract the feeling of dizziness, you can massage a point in the center of the belly (between the navel and the end of the sternum) with your thumb. To calm a nervous animal, you can massage the center of the main pad, also with your thumb. Another effective point is located in the temple area where you can perform a massage using small circles with your index finger.

In short, there are many natural options to ensure that both you and your dog enjoy traveling. In this way, you only have to make a small effort to empathize with your furry friend to understand his needs and respect them. With this you will both fully enjoy the trips. Can you imagine your dog running through the forest, the beach...? Or your cat or rabbit calm in a temporary home? Well, it is possible with natural remedies and therapies.

We also recommend…

By car, make stops every two hours or less. Even the most balanced animals can become restless when traveling, so it is advisable to make frequent stops. When traveling by plane, unless it is really essential, we have to travel in the hold because it is very stressful for them.

Get your dog (or cat) used to traveling gradually. First you can have them enter and exit the vehicle without starting it, and then take short trips to gradually increase their duration. And always, make him associate each advance with something pleasant like a walk, a toy or a candy.
